~ Confessions of a Bangkok Shopaholic Part II ~

The Story

Day 1

Air Asia was lousy because:
1. The seats could only be inclined max 10-20 degrees.
2. The plane had funny smells of old leather and leaking petrol
3. There were mosquitoes
4. The bus ride was squeezy and stuffy
5. The Air Asia belt is at the other end of the world at both Changi and Bangkok airport.

The experience was totally different when I took Tiger the last time round. The only difference between Tiger and normal airlines was there wasn't any frills like food, drinks, blanket and ear phones, which was totally within expectations. And everything else was excellent.

Arrived at the very very unique and super pretty Reflections Hotel at 2 plus! Alec and I stayed in the Princess Room for the first 2 nights while the rest stayed in the Disco Room. The rooms really did look like the pictures on the Reflections website! Every single decorative piece was well-thought-of and fitted perfectly well with the theme of the room! Amazing! The balconys were cozy and staff very friendly!

Pluses of Reflections Hotel
- Every room is unique, very pretty and cool
- It feels really like a beautiful well-decorated home
- The restaurant food is good and famous
- You get a free heart-shaped carpet if you spend more than 1000THB per meal
- The spa is good and reasonably-priced
- Staff is very friendly
- Balconys (for smokers?!)
- There is a cheap dvd/vcd rental shop just opposite the hotel
- There are 2 7-11s near the hotel
- There's a stall selling yummy sweet freshly squeezed orange juice at 35THB per big bottle near the hotel
- Great for the one-time extraordinary experience!

Minuses of Reflections Hotel
- There are mosquitoes cos there are loads of plants and open balconys
- The location is not central (near Chatuchak) but taxi ride to anywhere costs at most 80THB
- It's quite pricey (similar to that of Novotel but can't match the price of Asia Hotel)
- Some of the rooms (esp the Princess Room) are quite dark. Feels kind of sleepy and groggy whenever we step into the dim room. =p
- Some of the floors in the rooms look slightly old
- Swimming pool is small
- Most of the beds have not-very-friendly wooden sides sticking out of them and all of us bumped our knees at least once in every room.

Our first destination was Pratunam! I was determined to go to the right area this time round. Followed Steph's instructions and zuan into any small alley along Pratunam and voila! We finally found the humongous Pratunam Market and all the shopping centres in the area! Like what Stephy said, I totally don't see why we could miss it the last time! Pratunam is THE place to shop for clothes clothes and more clothes!!!

Day 2

9am- Chatuchak! Anything under the sun can be bought at CTC! But we only had time to explore less than half of the clothing area. =(

Day 3

Chinatown- Sampeng/Yaowarat Market! Bought loads and loads of earrings (12 pairs for $4?!!?!), accessories, nail art, hair accessories and pouches! And not forgetting my bird's nest, shark's fin, pork floss and cashew nuts!

The Mango sticky rice at MBK food court is super duper yummy!!!

Alec and I went to Patpong and Suan Lum that night. Damn funny can. We totally forgot that Suan Lum closed at midnight and we headed to Patpong first. After strolling Patpong, we decided to - for the very first time- try the Bangkok MRT! Went to the BTS control station and told the lady we wanted to go to Lumpini Park. And she said, "This is the BTS. Lumpini Park is on the other MRT line. You have exactly 7 mins to run to the MRT station before the last train leaves for Lumpini Park."

So there's a difference between MRT and BTS. Think there's still much to learn before I can successfully qualify for a Bangkok PR.

And so Alec and I ran and ran and ran and ran. We finally reached the very underground MRT station, bought the ticket (which was this black plastic coin) and rushed to board the train. The escalators were not working anymore cos the stations were abt to close. We finally were about to hop on the train when we realised we went to the wrong platform! Bloody hell. So we climbed like 4 flights of stairs to the correct platform. And dashed into the train which closed immediately behind us! Phew! I looked at Alec and giggled non-stop. The first thing Alec said was " You run very slow leh!" -_-"

Day 4

Pratunam and MBK again!!! More clothes, shoes and bags!

Day 5

Massage at Reflections and Home!!!

hi! yes.. Siam square is the building that is connected to MBK via the overhead bridge.. Remember to bargain real hard cos they tend to hike up their prices there! =)
